1935 SS1 Jaguar
Jaguar started in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, Ltd., a motorcycle sidecar manufacturer. Founder Sir William Lyons in 1927 also made bodies for the Austin Seven while operating as the Swallow Coachbuilding Co. The SS series was introduced in 1931 with a long bonnet and low silhouette which became a company hallmark. This is one of 624 manufactured over a two-year period. It is finished in “all silver” with a “special light blue” interior celebrating, as new, the 25th Silver Jubilee of King George V of England.

One of 16 Airline Saloons known to exist of the original 624, this matching-numbers 1935 SSl was purchased in March 1935 by Charles Randolph Whately of London. It was finished in special order All Silver over Special Light Blue with Royal Blue carpeting, drawing a parallel to the colors of the Royal Family and the 1935 Silver Jubilee celebration of King George V. The fourth - and current owners of 26 years - purchased the car in September 1996. Finished in 2021, it has been restored to exacting standards with exhaustive research and is documented by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust from new. The SSl is fitted with its original engine, chassis, commission tag, RAG carburetors, picnic tables and many unique Airline details.
